Trunk or Treat registration is now live!

Registration for people looking to set up a trunk at trunk or treat at Oakland Nature Preserve on October 30 from 2-4 PM is live now! This year, the event will also be a Gifts for Girls fundraiser, so we're asking for a $5 donation per participating trunk.

Meeting Minutes from 10/11 meeting

 Here's the minutes from the 10/11 meeting.


West Orange Community Meeting Agenda, October 11, 2021, 7 PM

1. Introduction of new troops/volunteers and any guests. Reminder to put your name and troop number in the chat to record your attendance.
2. Delegate election done by Denise. Delegates: Sarah M., Marie L., Nicole Sa. Alternates: Kari B., Juliet S.
3. Membership Team reports
a. Recruitment update – Sarahi. No update.
b. Treasurer update – Sarahi. No update.
c. Registrar update – Nicole. Send Nicole note if you’re accepting new girls in your troop (email Nicole or the community email). Currently one girl (first grade) looking for a troop.
d. Girl Scout Ambassador update – Valerie. No update.
e. Individual Girl Scouts (Juliettes) update – Marie and Christine. No updates.
4. Program Team reports
a. Safety and Training update – Kim.
i. Troop Camper Level 1 Training at MKW. Registration is open on MyGS. $20. Dates include 10/23 (4 slots left as of 10/10), 11/6 (sold out). One more to be added in December. This is a combined online and in person training. Only one date is needed per person. This training is necessary for camping, a skills day, or any overnight trip.

iii. Any meetings in person (in house or elsewhere), a TAR is required. For troop meetings, only one is required per year.
b. Camporee (possibly March 26 or April 8?) – Rachael. If anyone wants to help out on the committee for Camporee, please contact Rachael. (Activities, logistics, booking location, etc.). Kesha (3026/892) has volunteered to help. Thanks!! No updates from last time.
c. Older Girl Mentor – Courtney.
i. Contact Courtney when you’ve got girls working on higher awards (Bronze, Silver, Gold) to help keep the community in the loop.
ii. December 10 and 11, Silver and Gold online training. Girls have to do this before they start their Silver and Gold awards.
iii. Checking with Council about need to participate in Fall Product and/or cookies
iv. Congrats to Troop 650 and Troop 767 for the girls who have received their Bronze Award!
v. Troop 1109 is in the process of waiting for final approvals for their Silver Award.
d. Community Service – Joy
i. October: Treat Our Neighbors Right. Donation of nonperishable foods for families in need. Contact Joy for a list and information on how to donate.
e. Community Events coordinator – Kathy.

5. Logistics Team reports – Nicole.
a. Gifts for Girls update – Rotaya.
i. Clothing donation update and next date. 376 pounds of clothing (6 troops). Next date will be in April.
ii. There will be a fundraiser event for GfG at the Trunk or Treat.
iii. Troop financial donations. Goal is $3199. Looking at Spirit Nights, troop donations (hoping to have 100% of girls/families in a troop donate $7).
b. Fall Product – Kari.
i. Update on Fall Product
ii. If you haven’t entered your bank account info in M2, this is VERY important to make sure you can be paid moneys earned (if your sales were mostly online) or pay Council what is owed (if most sales were from the nut card in person).
iii. November 1-14, initial pickup.
iv. Reorders?
c. Cookie sales – Shaune/Stephane/Erica
i. Cookie rewards – still some left.
ii. No save the date for training yet, but soon hopefully?? No dates for cookie sales yet.
iii. Erica will be posting requests on the community pages for pearls of wisdom for cookie chairs and compiling a list of cookie chair mentors as well. Goal will be to have all new cookie chairs have an assigned mentor.
iv. MEGADROP DATE: January 22.
d. Recognitions – Deb
i. Dates for Board awards – needs to be turned in for early December to allow time to double check the paperwork. Contact Deb with any questions, and packets for nominations are available on Facebook or through email.
ii. Dates for Community awards after the holidays.
e. Communications – Julia

ii. Citrus Shop is back at the regular downtown location.
f. Upcoming events
i. Community meetings: 11/08, 12/13
ii. Trunk or Treat and recruitment event – October 30, 2-4, free event at Oakland Nature Preserve. Information to come.
iii. Kathy and Sarahi: Holiday Parades (Winter Garden parade is scheduled for Dec. 4 in the morning, still waiting on Ocoee info but should be that day in the afternoon). It is likely that numbers will be significantly capped for Winter Garden. Priority given to high school seniors (who this will be their last opportunity).
iv. Thinking Day?

October Community Service Project

 It's a new month, and time for a new service project!


October is here! Lets “Treat” Our Neighbors Right"
Our Community Service project will be a non perishable food drive to benefit the food pantries here in the West Orange community. This project will go through October 30.
Lets stock our local food pantries so they will be ready to help our neighbors this holiday season. If your troop is interested in participating email Joy W. or contact the West Orange community email. 
Need suggestions for what to get? Here's some ideas of what is needed:
  • Peanut butter 
  • Canned soup
  • Canned fruit 
  • Canned vegetables
  • Canned stew 
  • Canned fish
  • Canned beans 
  • Pasta
  • Rice 
  • Cereal
  • Granola bars 
  • Chili
  • Canned pasta/ravioli
  • Canned Meats like chicken, ham & SPAM
